MERCHANT PROCESSING STATEMENT
Sample month . $50,000 in card sales . Restaurant
Interchange: The fee Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and Amex charge on every card. Set by the card brands, not your processor. Nobody can lower it. A fair processor passes it through at cost.
Assessments: A small percentage the card brands charge on top of interchange, usually around 0.13 to 0.14 percent. Real cost. Should be passed through at cost.
Processor markup: What your processor keeps. This is the only number you can negotiate. For a restaurant doing $50,000 a month, a fair markup is in the range of 0.20 to 0.35 percent plus a few cents per transaction.
PCI fee: A monthly charge for compliance scanning that costs the processor almost nothing. Often $9.95 to $19.95 a month or $99 to $150 a year. Should be $0 or a one time charge.
Monthly fee: A charge for having an account. Should be $0 to $10.
Batch fee: A charge every time you close out for the day. $0.10 to $0.25 each, 30 times a month. Should be $0.
Statement fee: A charge for sending you this statement. Should be $0.
Annual fee: A yearly charge spread across the year or billed at once. Should be $0.
Total fees: Everything you paid to accept cards this month.
Effective rate: Total fees divided by total card sales. The single number that tells you if you are overpaying. Card present restaurants should land between 2.2 and 2.6 percent on a typical card mix.

Statement review questions
1What is a credit card processing statement review?
It is a line-by-line read of your monthly processing statement. We name each fee, explain it in plain English, and show what you are paying overall and where you may be overpaying.
2What do I need to send?
One recent monthly processing statement, all pages. A PDF or clear phone photos both work. You can black out full account numbers. We never need card numbers or passwords.
3How do I send my statement?
Use the contact form. When you submit it, your email app opens with your details filled in, and you attach the statement. Or email it straight to travis@ledgerlinepos.com.
4What kinds of businesses do you work with?
Restaurants, sports bars and bars are our best fit, because we know how tips, tabs and busy nights show up on a statement. We review statements for any merchant type, including retail and service businesses.
5Do you work with businesses outside Florida?
Yes. We are based in Apollo Beach, Florida, and we work with merchants nationwide. Everything can be handled by email and phone.
6How does Ledger Line POS get paid?
We are a referral business. If you choose to move to a setup we introduce, that provider may pay us a referral fee. The statement review is free to you either way, and we will tell you how we are paid before you decide anything.
